The original two-story storefront was home to various retailers over time, including a furniture store, a shoe repair shop, and a barber shop. The store became vacant in 2012, and remained as such until Monarch Urban acquired it in 2015. The redevelopment of this property will include a two-story retail space and two residential units. The first residential unit is a 1BR/1.5BA with a rear balcony and large terrace created by a setback from the historic front façade below.
The second residential unit is a 2BR/2BA duplex unit with front and rear balconies, as well as a large private roof deck with sweeping views of Northeast DC, Union Station, the Washington Monument, and the US Capitol. The two-story retail space features a dramatic 20-foot-high ceiling in the front of the space, a loft area with private deck, and a full basement. The project is expected to be completed in late 2017, with an exciting new retail tenant opening at the same time.
